Lives and works in rural Herefordshire, UK. Lydia Millward graduated from Byam Shaw School of Art, University of the Arts, London in 2006. She has also studied at LARA, London Atelier of Representational Art, and London Fine Art Studios.

Her studio practice revolves around drawing and painting from life. She has recently been painting a series of works based on her role as mother and artist, and the conflicts that arise between domestic and studio life.

She often works away from her studio, drawing and painting from the landscape and immersing herself indifferent environments.

Recently she has been exploring Fontainbleau Forest, responding to the trees and their energy through expressive mark making using charcoals. The shadows of herself reflected onto her drawings have created quiet, contemplative self portrait studies.

An ongoing interest in light and shadow, both actual and psychological, is a thread that runs throughout her practice.
