Lives and works in rural Herefordshire, UK. Lydia Millward graduated from Byam Shaw School of Art, University of the Arts, London in 2006. She has also studied at LARA, London Atelier of Representational Art, and London Fine Art Studios. In 2025, Lydia studied on the year long Online Drawing Development Year at the Royal Drawing School in London.

Her practice centres on the landscape and garden, with a particular focus on the domestic aspects of gardening. She works en plein air in both the UK and France. These smaller oils and egg tempera paintings on small, gessoed boards have evolved into larger, studio-based, memory pieces - which draw from observation, diary entries, poetry, writings and theatre.

For the last few years she has been exploring Fontainbleau Forest and the Artist Colony of Grez Sur Loing, and can often be found painting on the banks of the Loing river and the surrounding villages.

An ongoing interest in light and shadow, both actual and psychological, is a thread that runs throughout her practice, along with a love for colour.

Whilst working predominantly in oils, Lydia has started to use egg tempera on smaller scale works, especially when working on paintings based on memory rather than observation. She views these memory paintings as a somatic manifestation of past experience.
